Itinerary

Day 1: San José

Upon arrival to Costa Rica a representative of Green World Adventures will meet you at the Juan Santamaría International Airport, to take you to the hotel.  Overnight in San José

Day 2: Tortuguero

Early morning transfer to Tortuguero Canals National Park in the north Caribbean of Costa Rica. After driving through the magnificent Braulio Carrillo National Park, we will arrive to Guápiles, in this place we will enjoy a delicious typical breakfast that consists in rice with beans, called “Gallo Pinto”, also with fried plantain, eggs, toasts, coffee and orange juice. In some hotels or restaurants they serve different options for breakfast.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For the next three days our luggage weight is limited to 25 pounds. We recommend carrying a little bag pack for your clothes for the next days. The rest of your luggage will be at the operations centre.

After breakfast we will continue to Caño Blanco dock, on the way we will get to see banana plantations just before we arrive to the dock. Transfer by boat to the Lodge. After check in we will enjoy a delicious lunch served at the restaurant of our hotel. This afternoon is a great opportunity to visit the Village of Tortuguero along with your guide. Through this visit you will learn the ways of life of the local residents of Tortuguero. After the visit and some free time, we will return back to the Lodge. Our dinner will be served at the restaurant.   Overnight in Tortuguero  (B+L+D)

Day 3: Tortuguero National Park

This tour introduces visitors to the rich rainforest and its great array of Wildlife. Early morning hours are a great opportunity to witness the awakening in the forest. Coffee is readily available before departing on the tour, in our coffee room.  After this amazing experience we will return to the hotel for our breakfast.  NOTE: The entrance fee to the national park is not included, it Is $10 per person.

After breakfast departure by boat to the private trail where you will enjoy a guided walk into the tropical rainforest. After this activity you will return to the hotel for the lunch.  Tortuguero National Park–one of the most varied within the park system–has 11 ecological habitats, from high rainforest to herbaceous marsh communities.

Day 4: Puerto Viejo Beach

After breakfast meet at main dock for return boat ride to Caño Blanco dock then transfer to Puerto Viejo Beach, located in the South Caribbean of Costa Rica. Puerto Viejo is the most multicultural place in Costa Rica; here you will enjoy a great mixture of flavours, sensations and great vibrations to continue enjoying your trip. The crystalline water, kindly people and relax environment are some of their characteristics. After check in you will have a leisure time to enjoy at the beach or visit Puerto Viejo Town. Overnight in Puerto Viejo (B)

Day 5: Cahuita National Park

After breakfast we will visit the richest coast in Costa Rica for coral reefs observation, it is the Cahuita National Park. Here we will have a snorkeling tour to observe the magical marine life in their natural environment. After this amazing activity we will have a natural hike besides of the coast with the company of our naturalist guide, who will explain very important things about the history, culture and nature around Cahuita and South Caribbean.  After this tour we will have our lunch in Cahuita. After lunch we will return to Puerto Viejo and relax with a leisure time at the beach or in your hotel enjoying with a delicious Caribbean coctel.  Overnight in Puerto Viejo(B+L)

Day 6: Pacuare white water rafting – Arenal Volcano

Early morning we will transfer to Siquirres, here we will enjoy a delicious typical breakfast and after it we have a little time to change our clothes and prepare for our rafting adventure. We will experiment one of the most famous activities in Costa Rica, it is the white water rafting. After breakfast and changing into rafting gear, we will drive to our private rafting put-in on the banks of the Pacuare River.

Here we review and adjust all necessary equipment for proper fit, give you a comprehensive rafting safety talk, and instruct you on paddling basics. You’ll be excited to launch your raft and begin to paddle 14 miles deep into the heart of one of Costa Rica’s most impressive primary rainforests. You’ll pass through densely vegetated rainforest gorges, view cascading waterfalls, relax in serene pools and experience pounding rapids. You will enjoy an adrenaline-packed afternoon running the Pacuare’s biggest rapids, with names like Upper and Lower Huacas, Cimarron, Dos Montañasand more.

After this activity we will return to the Operations Center where you will find showers and places for change your wet clothes into dry clothes. After it we will continue our adventure to the Arenal Volcano region. On the way to Arenal Volcano region we have to drive through beautiful rural scenery.  The Arenal Volcano is the most beautiful volcano in Costa Rica. Recognized as a volcano since the 19th century, it was known by foreign investigators as Volcan Costa Rica, Rio Frio, Canastos Volcano and Cerro de los Guatusos.   When we arrived at La Fortuna we will drive to our hotel stop performing the check. The remainder of the evening you can enjoy a free space to enjoy the facilities of the hotel or go to discover the local people on your own. Day 7: Arenal Volcano National Park – La Fortuna Waterfall

After breakfast at the hotel, we will have a walk to observe the Arenal Volcano, it will be at the Mirador El Silencio Reserve, this reserve has 4 trails, located on an estate of 225 hectares with 100 hectares of primary forest, in which observe many species of animals in their natural habitat, also has diverse vegetation with majestic trees like Ceiba, Guarumu and other nesting birds trees. At the trails we can observe the volcano and Lake Arenal.

In the afternoon we will have a hike to the La Fortuna Waterfall, the waterfall is a stunning place to get the waterfall we will walk on steep terrain, once down we can go to swim in the base of the waterfall 70 meters high, surrounded by lush rainforest.  In the evening have the opportunity to purchase an OPTIONAL TOUR to the relaxing at the natural hot springs.Overnight in Arenal. Day 8: Monteverde Cloud Forest

In the morning after breakfast we will transfer to the Monteverde Cloud Forest. For this transfer will take the jeep-boat-jeep system, this means you get to Monteverde across Lake Arenal. The transfer itself is quite an adventure, as in the lake will have a spectacular view of Arenal volcano.   In the afternoon we will have free time to enjoy the amenities we offer at the hotel and the surrounding environment. Or you can go to visit Santa Elena Town, and discover what it has to offer.  Overnight in Monteverde (B)

Day 9: The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve

After the breakfast at the hotel we will have a magical a walk tour inside of the Cloud Forest Reserve of Monteverde. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is famous for being one of the wildlife sanctuaries highlights of the New World Tropics. Dwarf forests dramatically sculpted by the wind on the exposed ridges contrast with wind protected forests, which look majestically tall trees decorated with orchids, bromeliads, ferns, vines and moss. Cloud forests are of great importance to the area, so these are one of the last cloud forests that are protected.

OPTIONAL TOURS: The Trapiche tour, Canopy tour or Zip-line adventure, Horseback riding inside of the cloud forest, Hike through the Monteverde Hanging Bridges. Overnight in Monteverde(B)

Day 10: Manuel Antonio

After the breakfast we will go to one of the most beautiful areas and greater diversity of species such as Manuel Antonio located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. In this area we can find the Manuel Antonio National Park where we can find lots of animals, which have a facility to be observed.  Overnight in Manuel Antonio (B)

Day 11: Manuel Antonio National Park

After breakfast we will have a tour to Manuel Antonio National Park, a place surrounded by 4 beautiful beaches and a rainforest that is home to the restless white-faced monkeys or capuchins, the fun little marmoset, a species endemic to Costa Rica, sloths and noisy howler monkeys also known as Congo, as well as many other species of birds, iguanas and more. With one of the most stunning scenery in all of Costa Rica, the park boasts white sand and green foliage in the midst of great mountains.  Free afternoon to enjoy the freedom we relaxed on the beach or stay at your hotel.  Overnight in Manuel Antonio (B)

Day 12: San José

Morning at leisure. Afternoon transfer to San José

EXTENSIONS: If you want to extend your trip in Costa Rica we can offer more nights at the beach or visit another touristic attractions in Costa Rica. Please let us know if you are interested to get an extension for your trip.  Overnight in San José(B)

Day 13: Flight back home

Today our local representative will be transferring you to the Juan Santamaria International Airport in time for your departure flight. We wish you a pleasant trip back home and hope to enjoy your company in another exciting Costa Rican adventure very soon. (B)

WHAT TO BRING?

This is going to be a warm place with temperatures ranging between 75ºF in San José, 76ºF in Arenal, 73ºF in Monteverde, 85ºF in Manuel Antonio and  85ºF in Tortuguero and Puerto Viejo, so bring shorts and T shirts, but just in case bring a light jacket for the nights in Monteverde. Swimming suit is necessary, hiking shoes or good snickers and an extra pair of shoes, sandals, suntan lotion, insects repellent (this I recommend just in case), flashlight, a rain coat (it is dry season but who knows what could happen), binoculars, camera and good vibrations to enjoy the beauty of this little peaceful country that we are happy to show you.
