Day 1: San Pedro Sula – Copán Ruinas
Our guide awaits you at the reception of your hotel at your convenient time. Before heading to Copán Ruinas we visit the traditional and colorful Guamilito market where vegetables, fruits, meat and spices, but also all kinds of regional handcraft like wooden, straw and leather goods are for sale. Besides, you can observe how the typical corn tortillas are made. During the 3-hours transfer to Copán Ruinas learn about Mayan trade routes, social and political organization as well as theories on their mysterious demise and observe the diversity of landscapes Honduras has to offer. Upon arrival at your hotel, which is located in the centre of the little relaxing village of Copán Ruinas, you have plenty of time to discover it by yourself and enjoy the atmosphere of this picturesque village. 2 overnights in Copán Ruinas.
Day 2: Copán Ruinas
After breakfast we visit the legendary Archaeological Park of Copán, consisting of two main sites: the ruins and the sepulchres. Representing the southeast limit to the spread of the Maya world, the city-state of Copán became the Maya’s crowning artistic achievement, the cultural apex of the Maya civilization. Leader among all Mayan cities in terms of quantity and quality of stone sculpture, it has been dubbed the Athens of the New World. Learn about the impressive 63-step stairway with over 2,500 hieroglyphs and the masterfully carved stelae. Appreciate to its full the significant number of ruins surrounded by giant trees that provide shades all over the site. In the afternoon, we visit the Chortí community of La Pintada, for a look at the lifestyle of the direct descendants of the Mayas.
Day 3: Copán Ruinas – San Pedro Sula
The Maya developed into the New World’s most sophisticated ancient civilization, a society of scientists, skilled architects and sculptors, fierce warriors and a ruling class that raised enormous temples to honor the lives and achievements of their kings. In the morning we visit Las Sepulturas, a residential and burial site of the wealthy Mayas of Copán. We also visit a bird reserve that cares for rescued and endangered birds of the American tropics. The park has also an extraordinary forest including mahogany, Indio desnudo, chico zapote, Spanish cedar and fig trees. Elevated wooden trails and decks offer spectacular viewing of the park’s pristine river, year-round freshwater springs, huge boulders and sloping canyon walls. In the afternoon we return to San Pedro Sula. 01 overnight in your centrally located hotel in San Pedro Sula.
Day 4: San Pedro Sula – Roatan
You are transferred to the airport for your domestic flight (*) to Roatan, which is depending on weekday in the morning or afternoon. You will be met at the airport by a hotel representative and transferred to your hotel, which is located directly on the beautiful white sandy beach of West Bay. Your hotel has various pools, a precious tropical garden as well as various restaurants and bars. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, the warm sun and the light sea breeze. 3 overnights in Roatan.
Day 5 & 6: Roatan
Days left free to enjoy the fun and sun of Roatan. The island is part of the second largest coral reef in the world and therefore a paradise for divers and snorkelers. Already during diving courses attention is paid to a gentle handling of the reef and its inhabitants. Besides diving, snorkeling and swimming many other sport activities can be practiced on the island for instance kayaking, water-ski, jet-ski, parasailing, beach volleyball and horse riding. We would be pleased to organize additional activities for you such as an island-tour, the visit of a dolphin show, a dolphin encounter, canopy etc. Your hotel is also an excellent place for sunbathing and relaxing as the beaches of Roatan are among the most beautiful ones in Central America and the Caribbean.
Day 7: Roatan – San Pedro Sula
In the morning you are transferred to the airport in Roatan for your return flight (*) to San Pedro Sula in time for your international departure flight. End of the program or extension of your stay with another of our itineraries.
